Here’s a lineup of new Blu-Ray horror movies for February, March, and April of 2012. Lots of cult classics are being released – two movies from Herschell Gordon Lewis (Wizard of Gore, Gore Gore Girls), the anticipated 80s B-movie monster flick Deadly Spawn, the first Godzilla (on Criterion!), the mid-70s giallo Strip Nude for Your Killer (featuring Edwige Fenech). Then, of course, there are the sequels/prequels: The Thing 2011, Paranormal Activity 3, Human Centipede 2, and even Wes Craven’s mid-80s cash-in Hills Have Eyes Part 2. Completing the list is Ti West’s Innkeepers.

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
Blu-Ray Release Date: Available Now!

The third film in the popular Paranormal Activity series is mostly a prequel, showing what happens to Katie and Kristi as kids and how the curse on their family started. The Paranormal Activity 3 blu-ray includes the unrated director’s cut and the theatrical version. Read a review of the film.

Godzilla (1954)
Blu-Ray Release Date: Available Now!

AKA Gojira, this is the classic monster movie that started it all. It’s unlike any of the others that followed it, because it’s made with the somber knowledge of the atomic bomb attacks less than a decade before. This restored version from Criterion features audio commentary by David Kalat, the restoration of the alternate American version with Raymond Burr, interviews, trailers, and much more. Get it!

Human Centipede II: Full Sequence (2011)
Blu-Ray Release Date: February 14, 2012

The sequel to the icky Human Centipede ramps up the ick factor. Tom Six gets meta on us, as bug-eyed mental case Martin (Laurence R. Harvey) enjoys the first film so much that he decides to kidnap 12 people and make his own centipede. Hey, you gotta have goals. Pretty nasty, but it’s in black-and-white, so that makes it art! Released on Valentines Day, so get it for your significant other… we can’t think of a better Valentine than that!

The Thing (2011)
Blu-Ray Release Date: Available Now!

When paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) travels to an isolated outpost in Antarctica for the expedition of a lifetime, she joins an international team that unearths a remarkable discovery. Their elation quickly turns to fear as they realize that their experiment has freed a mysterious being from its frozen prison. This is the prequel to John Carpenter’s classic from 1982, showing what happens to the Norwegian crew before the thing makes it to the American base.

The Hills Have Eyes: Part 2 (1985)
Blu-Ray Release Date: March 20, 2012

Wes Craven directs this sequel to the classic The Hills Have Eyes. A group of bikers, which includes some of the survivors from the original film, embark on a journey by bus to a biker race near the desert of the infamous incidents. The survivors of the mutant family from the first film find them when their bus breaks down… The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 isn’t exactly the pinnacle of Craven’s career – his biography reveals that he needed the money and that is that. Mostly remembered for the infamous scene of a dog having a flashback (!), this is probably for Craven completists only – but hey, at least Michael Berryman is back! Remastered in Anamorphic with DTS Surround Sound.

The Innkeepers (2011)
Blu-Ray Release Date: April 24, 2012

Ti West’s followup to his House of the Devil continues the slow burn tradition of that film, featuring a pair of bored clerks (Sara Paxton and Pat Healy) working at a Victorian inn during its last few days of business. The pair begin investigating the building’s ghostly reputation, which gets pretty real after a psychic (Kelly McGillis) checks in. If you liked House of the Devil, you’ll like this.

Zaat (1971)
Blu-Ray Release Date: February 21, 2012

Mad scientist Dr. Kurt Leopold develops a formula called “ZaAt” (Z-sub-A, A-sub-T) which us uses to turn victims into sea creatures (like himself). Produced, written, and directed by Jacksonville, Florida resident Don Barton, who shot the movie in 1970 on a $75,000 budget. Shown mostly around Jacksonville and other places in the south and is a definite cult/drive-in oddity that gained popularity when it was shown on Mystery Science Theater 3000 (under the alternate title Blood Waters of Dr. Z).

Wizard of Gore (1970) / The Gore Gore Girls (1972)
Blu-Ray Release Date: May 1, 2012

Two gory classics from Herschell Gordon Lewis are coming to Blu-Ray. The Wizard of Gore (1970) is about a small time magician named Montag the Magnificent (Ray Sager) who appears to murder young female volunteers in very gory ways. But it’s just an illusion… or is it? In The Gore Gore Girls (1972), a lunatic is slaughtering the sexy strippers who work for night club impresario Marzdone Mobilie (Henny Youngman). Trying to solve the gruesome goings-on are obnoxious private eye Abraham Gentry (Frank Kress) and ditsy reporter Nancy Weston (Amy Farrell). Over-the-top, sleazy, and funny trash from the director of Blood Feast. From Image Entertainment / Something Weird.

Strip Nude for Your Killer (1975)
Blu-Ray Release Date: March 27, 2012

When a fashion model dies during an abortion, a series of murders begins, starting with her doctor. The next victims are connected to the modeling agency where she worked. The murderer wears a black motorcycle outfit and helmet. Will anyone discover the murderer’s identity before it’s too late? This mid-70s giallo comes from Andrea Bianchi, the guy who later gave us the insane Burial Ground: Nights of Terror. Pretty sleazy giallo starring the gorgeous Edwige Fenech.

Deadly Spawn (1983)
Blu-Ray Release Date: Available Now!

Two campers in the New Jersey woods investigate a fallen meteorite only to be devoured by alien parasites who have hitched a ride to Earth. After finishing off the campers, the hungry space monsters head for a nearby town, where they make their domain in the basement of an old house soon begin polishing off one hapless inhabitant after another. B-movie cult classic and low-budget fun. From Elite Entertainment, the Deadly Spawn Blu-Ray and DVD is highly anticipated.
