The movie/promo called Mandible (for the Newport Beach Film Festival) is a 7 minute uncomfortable trip to the torture porn dentist, as a man who never flosses finally gets it through his thick skull that he better floss from now on. Of course, after “Dr Cutter” gets done with him, that skull of his won’t have much of a jaw. Still – flossing is important, and what does a dentist have to do to get the message out? Mandible shows you (anyone with dental phobias should probably not watch):

We bet that there are a lot of dentists out there who are sick of telling their patients to floss and maybe could sympathize with Dr. Cutter just a little bit.

The short film-spot was created by Erich Joiner and Robert Richardson (Tool of North America) for the ad agency RPA. You may known Robert Richardson as the DP on films like Django Unchained, Shutter Island, Inglourious Basterds, and the upcoming World War Z.

Mandible is a clever spot for the film fest, with Dr. Cutter accurately explaining the lure of cinema: We’re particles of light on the screen. But we can make you feel anything.

The Newport Beach Film Festival takes place from April 25 to May 2, 2013 in various venues around Newport Beach, California. This includes the Big Newport Theater, Lido Regency Theater, Starlight Triangle Square 8 Cinemas, Island Cinemas, and the Studio at Sage Hill. Films being screened include A Single Shot (with Sam Rockwell), The Girl on the Train, The Iceman, and The Hypnotist. More info at the official site.
