Paramount Announces Fourth Movie In Popular Franchise
Paramount Pictures has announced that it is developing Paranormal Activity 4, since Paranormal Activity 3 has grossed over $103 million domestically to date (almost $203 million worldwide).

The first three Paranormal Activity films together have grossed $581 million worldwide. The first film, from Oren Peli, only cost about $15,000 to make. It grossed $193 million worldwide. (In comparison, the $60K budgeted Blair Witch Project
There is no information yet on storyline or cast for Paranormal Activity 4. However, we figure it will premiere during the Halloween season like last time. Watch this space for updates.

Paranormal Activity 4 brings back Katie Featherston but also stars newcomers Kathryn Newton, Matt Shively, and Brady Allen. Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (who also directed Paranormal Activity 3), this 3rd sequel takes place a few years after baby Hunter disappeared and focuses on Alice, her mother, and little Robbie. (We have a suspicion about little Robbie…) In an interview with MTV, the directors stated that since the movie is back in present day, it gave them an opportunity to take advantage of familiar (newish) technology like Skype.
“When you’re video chatting with someone, you can’t see behind you, but the audience watching this can. That plays a pretty big role in the movie.”

They also want to shoot more scenes outside the house, as opposed to the previous movies which almost always took place inside the home. Finally, they wanted to bring back some of the humor from part 3.
“As scary as they are, I think horror and comedy go hand-in-hand. I thought our most successful scenes last year were the ones that were really scary and really funny and really scary again.”

Paranormal Activity 4 arrives in theaters Friday, October 19th, 2012.
