In the tradition of American Psycho: The Musical and Evil Dead: The Musical comes Re-Animator: The Musical!
The stage version of the popular cult movie has been extended through the end of May 2011. Directed by Stuart Gordon (who also directed the movie) has brought his gore effects right on stage. Apparently, there’s enough blood in the play that the first 2 rows of seats are designated a “splash zone”, where you can get hit with a bunch of fake blood during the musical. We suppose it’s a bit messier than a Gallagher show. Says Stuart Gordon:
Blood is part of the story, and we decided that we should have a special zone for the audience who really likes blood to be able to bathe in it, to be showered with it.
Yay for bloodbaths!
Re-Animator The Musical features Graham Skipper and George Wendt (Cheers), with effects by John Carl Buechler (Friday the 13th Part VII, Troll) who also did work on the movies Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator. Mark Nutter writes the songs.
It’s playing at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood through the end of May. Official Site here.
