Top Ten Movie Scenes of People Exploding
(in one fashion or another)
10. Wanted Dead or Alive (1986)
Head Explosion
Rutger Hauer is a bad-ass who finally gets his man (played by Gene Simmons). There was a bonus for bringing him in alive. Rutger thinks about it and decides: fuck the bonus.
9. Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Jason Blows Up
Jason Vorhees is finally cornered by the FBI (Jesus, it only took them 8 movies to figure out that they may want to start a manhunt at Crystal Lake). They blow him up real good. (Of course, this movie considers Jason a demon now, so he can’t really be killed. Whatever.)
8. Rambo – First Blood Part II (1985)
Explosion By Arrow
Rambo takes his time aiming his explosive arrow at some jerkoff who can’t figure out that he’s too far away for that wimpy handgun to work properly. Nice payoff!
7. Blade II (2002)
Scud’s Death
Blade’s new partner Scud is really working for the vampires (jerk!) Blade finally teaches him a lesson. (About 4.30 in)
6. Slither (2006)
Birth of Slugs
Gross! This poor woman is impregnated by alien slug things and expands to a size much larger than Octo-mom. Her giving birth is quite messy. The movie is kinda like Night of the Creeps, only much nastier.
5. Deadly Friend (1986)
Basketball Head
Technically, this isn’t an “explosion”, since Anne Ramsey’s head is decimated by a basketball, but hey, we’re willing to bend the rules a bit because this scene is hilarious. (If you want to see another similar head-smash, try Riki-Oh – The Story of Ricky)
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Melting Nazi Face/Exploding Frog
Kind of a no-brainer here. After Major Toht’s face melts all pretty-like, Belloq get’s his comeuppance. This movie was rated PG. Go figure.
3. Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Puff Boy
Probably the most hilarious sequence of a guy exploding, this scene sees bad guy Thunder all pissed off about Lo Pan’s death. He puffs up like a balloon real good before exploding into confetti or something. Perhaps he thought he could take everybody with him. This is basically what should have happened to Violet in Willy Wonka after chewing that gum.
2. Scanners (1981)
Exploding Head
Another exploding head sequence, from Cronenberg’s classic horror flick about people who can kill with their thoughts. One such scanner uses his gift to turn a guy’s head into mush. Some days we feel like that guy, too. Get the Advil!
1. Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983)
“It’s Wafer-Thin!”
Have a mint! It’s only… wafer thin!
What more is there to say about this scene? You better have a bucket on hand before you watch it, though!
